No ID – No problem

We are delighted to announce we are working with HSBC to help those who are homeless to open a bank account.

One of the many issues that those who are homeless face is not having a bank account. This is a huge issue due to the fact that any benefit received needs to be paid into your own bank account. Banks require you to show proof of address as well as a form of ID to open a one, making it tricky for homeless people who may not have ID or these documents.

HSBC have started a new scheme in 31 branches nationwide. This scheme offers basic ‘No Fixed Address’ bank accounts for those with no fixed abode. This follows a successful trial in Liverpool in 2018.

What this means for our residents?

We are delighted to announce that if you are a resident with us in Blackpool, you can now take part in this scheme. We are hopeful that this will help our residents who have struggled to open a bank account, which should ensure they can receive their benefit payments.

The account also comes with a bank card, allowing residents to purchase in shops or withdraw money from cash machines.

We welcomed Linda and Sarah from HSBC, based in Blackpool, to our hostels on 12th December 2019, where they learned more about us at Homeless Action and the work we do. We would like to thank HSBC for working with us and providing this scheme.
